A Talk About The Headstone Companies

By Patricia Roberts

Taking note of the ones out there that have an experience in being a stone cutter, because you might also want to start a business as a custom grave marker. If you are interested, then first determine the scope and size of this planned business of yours. Why? Well, because there are some of those that only do headstones. They are mostly in Kansas Headstone Companies.

Keep in mind that even if, by chance, you were the type of person that has a hard time being empathetic or understanding, it is still pretty much a requirement when doing this business. You literally are going to be talking to grieving people. You will not succeed if you continue being a heartless jerk about it.

Fortunately, engraving these headstones can be very simple than we think it could get. With the right equipment that is. If you get them then learn the art on how to engrave afterward. There are classes out there that specifically teach you how to engrave some granite. There are even local classes to take.

Okay, first things first, get started on learning how to carve and engrave. There are plenty of ways in doing this. You could either take classes or study under someone, particularly a headstone engraver, and have him or her mentor you about it. Once you got the basics down to a T, practice as much as possible until you already perfected all your learned talent.

Locate an office location that actually is in the area that you are planning to supply with your headstones. Ideally, it would be a lot better to find one near the cemetery, since this is the point of your business. Though, anywhere that is relatively easy to access can work too. Get a building that has a small yard at the front where you could display some of the samples.

Just to have a little bit of a head start, join a membership that relates to what you are doing. The MBNA could be one of them and getting it will indicate your participation in standards and ethics of this industry. Visiting their website for reference can also be done and get their information as well as a little look at their workshop.

You are gonna need equipment, right? Well, aside from the obvious slabs, get a Hoyer lift. This will help you move all of your granite from one place to another inside your workshop. That and towards you delivery truck too. A stonecutter too, obviously, if you wanna get started on actually engraving something.

Get a license. A business license may be well suited, as per usual. Since your custom monument firm might want to get a hold of you to permit or license. No use on dilly dallying since this is important in all aspects. Plus, it guarantees you that you will be a legitimate company from on and onwards.

And finally, try to plan your grand opening. Make it entertaining with a small party that goes with it. Display your samples to show off.
