Corrugated Boxes St Louis: What To Know

By Laura Watson

In packaging, paper has a very important role. This is because it is very versatile and does not only protect the goods it also helps advertise them. Paper boards are the most common type of paper that is used in packaging. Corrugated boxes St Louis are the frequently used shipping packaging for very many products worldwide.

Corrugated boxes are the cornerstone of modern manufacturing and distribution worldwide. They are used to ship different types of products from electronic equipment to normal everyday household items. They are known to be efficient, strong, easy to handle and control and can be printed. They are also recyclable. The role they play is less glamorous but very significant in shipping.

In the packaging industry, a lot of healthy competition is found between corrugated and plastic packaging. The one advantage that corrugated boxes have over other types of packaging material is the fact that they are recyclable and reusable. At home, they can be used to store items and can even be used to transport personal belongings when moving.

They are however mainly used as a secondary packaging choice. This is where they are used to transport already packaged products. The goods are then transported between distributors and retailers. You will most likely not find corrugated boxes in supermarket shelves.

The basic printing that is done on the outside of the boxes is usually to help identify the contents of the boxes and nothing else. However, there are various manufacturers that have embraced corrugated boxes as a primary packaging material. In this case, the boxes are clearly labeled and contain heavy printing that aims to attract the customers to buy the products.

There are special machines that are used to make the corrugated boxes. They laminate the paper boards into several layers as required. The boxes are usually made in different layers depending on the intended purpose. When transporting light products the single-layered boxes are preferred. The double and triple layers are used to carry the heavy and bulky products such as car parts.

The size of the flutes determines the thickness of the layers of the corrugated boxes. The flutes come in different sizes but the size used in the single-layered boxes is the most common and preferred by many. The liner board is the outermost layer and is in some cases bleached to allow high-quality printing.

Mostly the liner boards are made from heavy unbleached ground wood paper. This is the brown material that is commonly seen on corrugated boxes. The liner boards are glued to the flutes to form the boards.

To create an even surface on the boxes, the smallest flute is placed on the last layer. This creates a smooth surface that allows any printing to be done. The large flutes are usually placed on the inside. This ensures the box is strong enough for goods to be stacked inside it. A double layered box usually has three liner boards with two flute layers. The two flute layers do not need to be of the same size.
