Disposable Medical Supplies Is The New Healthcare Trend

By Angela Brown

Health is important for everyone. One needs to be healthy in order to perform his or her everyday life and to live for a long time. You go to the hospital or any medical centers to be treated or to avoid diseases and illnesses from happening to you. As you may have noticed, many medical centers today are now switching to disposable medical supplies Jamaica and single use devices.

Reprocessed supplies that are improperly cleaned can pose real threats to patients. Of course, nobody wants to have the blood clot, bone residue, or dead tissue of another person. Some of the equipment that are difficult to clean are endoscope and laparoscope since these are consists of sophisticated and movable parts.

Even if one will carefully follow the procedures on how these instruments should be cleaned, there is still a chance for a microscopic human remains to lodged in the device. It appears that those well known disinfection and autoclave cleaning processes has not yet evolved, even when the medical devices have evolved already. This leads to operating using improperly cleaned instruments.

Now that can lead to higher risks of healthcare associated infections, surgical site infections, and cross contamination. No healthcare professional would want something bad happen to their patients just because they have used a contaminated apparatus. The good thing about disposable ones are that they are sterilized, then individually packaged, meant for one time use.

When disposables are used, these threat is eliminated. Even if a medical personnel will follow the cleaning process thoroughly, there would still be a chance for the residue of the person who used it previously to remain on the equipment. With the use of this, human error cleaning risks are eliminated, making sure that the work environment is safe.

Reusables carries a risk far greater from those use once for surgical site infections, cross contamination, and other healthcare associated infections. Procedures and operations with reusables will place patients into an unnecessary risk. Used ones are package individually, sterilized, and disposable items which carries no risks. This is the very reason why the shift for disposables have occurred.

The most notable issues with these devices and supplies is the ever increasing biomedical waster along with other related environmental concerns. There are certain protocols that must be followed when disposing biomedical waste. These waste are considered hazardous. Improper disposal can cause HAI and cross contamination.

Improperly management of these waste could end up into leaks which may also lead to infection and contamination. Many think that disposable instruments are not environmental friendly at all. Because of this, the provided solution for the safety of the patients have been questioned about its disposal.

Hospitals produce large amounts of waste every year which mostly comes from operating rooms. Because of that, the medical waste production is considered as the most critical factor to consider when it comes to evaluating a device. Even though biomedical waste can pose concern, this must not be taken by man as a threat. More options for recycling are developed every day as the concerns for the safety of the environment continues to rise.
